Best Dog Friendly Attractions Uk – Not all of these attractions allow dogs in all indoor areas, but they all do allow dogs in some indoor areas.
I will provide as much information as possible under each heading (last checked February 2023), but please visit each attraction’s website for the most up-to-date information. This post is written about pet dogs, not service dogs.

Dog Friendly Restaurants In Torquay, Paignton & Brixham
Berwick Museum and Art Gallery is open from April to late autumn and dogs are welcome all year round. This is a great museum with various exhibits. My favorite part is the medieval part of Berwick above where you can walk through the dragon with your dog and there are all sorts of silly mirrors.

Barter Books in Alnik is one of the world’s largest used book stores. It is very charming with unique features and hints of its past as a railway station.
There is a children’s corner and don’t forget to look above the bookshelves to see the mini trains moving. Dogs are welcome in the bookstore (seating available) and in the dog-friendly cafe section. Check out this video about our visit to Barter Books with Fozzie.
London Dog Week: The Best Dog Friendly Attractions In London
Hekham Old Gaol is located in the heart of Hekham town center and is dog friendly throughout. It is open from April to late autumn. The museum is the oldest surviving purpose-built prison and shares what life was like for prisoners in the 1300s through interactive exhibits, including demonstrations and dungeon tours.

Warkworth Castle is one of the places we got to visit with Fozzie and Ollie. It’s not huge, so it’s never too busy, but there’s enough for us to explore and make the visit worthwhile. Warkworth is very dog friendly and the castle often hosts special events.

The Best Dog Friendly Beaches In The Uk
Dogs can travel for free on Britain’s oldest railway and are welcome on non-special days. Tenfield asks that dogs be on leashes and off site. It’s a lovely little trip as well as a great walk around Goat Arch.
Aln Valley Railway The Aln Valley Railway operates steam, rail and diesel trains to Alnwick and is a great place for a family holiday with your dog (especially combined with a trip to Barter Books). You can read our full visit guide here.
One adult dog is allowed on the Alln Valley Railway with a maximum of 10 dogs per carriage and customers must not let dogs out of their seats.
Speaking of trains, dogs used to be allowed on trains on the Stevenson Railway in North Tyneside, but this is no longer the case. See here for the latest information.

Ford & Etal in Northumberland is very dog friendly with a number of dog friendly attractions including:
Most attractions are open in season from March 27 to November 5, but check individual locations for exact information. There’s also plenty of outdoor fun in the area, you can read my full guide to visiting Ford & Etal here.
Let me start by saying that dogs are not allowed in the magnificent grounds of the main castle, although there are plenty of places to entertain. In addition to the grounds, dog-friendly indoor areas include:
Dogs aren’t allowed in the main museum, but they can explore the historic buildings in the courtyard, and there’s a covered outdoor cafe where dogs can hang out with their owners (overlooking a lovely playground).
Days Out With Dogs
Dogs are welcome to visit Eshot Airfield and can join their owners in the dog-friendly indoor viewing area/cafe. It’s a great place to hang out with interesting displays and you can watch planes take off and land (if you time it right). The food in the cafe is excellent. Read our full review here.

It’s always worth checking if your favorite store allows dogs, because you might be surprised. For example, dogs are welcome in some areas of John Lewis and Fenwick.
There are too many dog-friendly pubs and cafes to list here, but I’m sure you know your favourites. Things to keep in mind if you want to visit a closed location quickly, easily and up close.

Leashed dogs are welcome in all areas of this Sunderland museum, which includes an airfield hangar, WWII street, Romney’s War and more.
Emporium Ice Cream Cafe in Corbridge is very dog friendly. Your dogs can join you in their indoor seating area and they even sell special dog ice cream and treats.
Dogs are not allowed on Beamish’s premises or buildings, but are allowed in the yard and in enough rooms to make the trip worthwhile. Indoor spaces that typically allow dogs include:
Tubes, Buses and Trains Just thought I should add that dogs are allowed on most public transport, including the underground. It’s handy when it’s raining and you don’t like walking around wet, but you have to get somewhere.
Dog Friendly Croatia: Travelling In Croatia With A Dog
This should go without saying, but when my kids were little, they loved going to Free Farm (aka Pets). If you have to get out of the house with the little ones when the weather isn’t the best, it’s always worth keeping these options in mind. Most pet stores will neuter all incoming dogs, and most garden centers accept dogs (although check the restrictions in their cafes).

Located in North Yorkshire, Camp Eden is very dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in all exhibition stands (of which there are many) and in specially designated areas in the cafe.

This museum is a former POW camp and shares diverse and interesting exhibits on all aspects of the war. Some kennels are dark / have flashing lights etc but this is clearly marked on the outside and easily avoided if your dog is nervous. Read our guide to visiting Camp Eden with dogs.
The Riedale Folk Museum is quite close to Camp Eden and you can visit both on the same day. Dogs are welcome in all areas of the museum, including the buildings. There is no cafe, but the village has a tea room and a dog pub.
The museum celebrates the history of the area with heritage and historic buildings spanning its vast past (including a witch’s cave), as well as rare farm animals and a 1950s street.
Dogs are welcome to join us on North York Moors Railway journeys (except special events and dining carriages). Tickets are £3 and you are asked to keep your dog away from the seats. Fozzie and I had a wonderful ride on this track last summer.
