But there’s always one important member you can leave behind: the four-legged friend in your life. However, there is no need to leave your dog with friends or in the kennel when planning a holiday at home in the UK. They can accompany you on walks, bike rides, city tours and boat trips while you’re away, creating a fun and memorable vacation without leaving your home.

Top Dog Friendly Accommodation

There are many places in England that are dog and pet friendly, from seaside hotels to log cabins and cottages in the Cotswolds. Here’s a selection of the best – just don’t forget to pack some essentials.

One of England’s most iconic landmarks, the Lake District is a great outdoor activity destination and offers dogs (and their owners) hundreds of opportunities for short walks, long walks and challenging walks. Many of the paths in the village are easy to navigate and your pet will not be overwhelmed during your visit.

Meer House Estate is on the edge of Keswick with a range of shepherd’s huts and log cabins overlooking the northern hills. The Little Man is one of the most diverse kennels with a small enclosed garden and dozens of acres of surrounding grass perfect for walking or stepping outside. The nearby village of Threlkeld also has many pet-friendly pubs.

The cozy cabin comes with a hot tub and has a wooden interior with outdoor seating – a great choice for couples with our furry friend.

Where Are The Best Dog Friendly Glamping Sites In The Uk?

While Cornwall’s Fistral Beach is known as a surfer’s paradise, on a calm day these 750 meters of golden sand are a dog’s paradise on earth with plenty of room to run. As you enter Newquay, there are dog bars, restaurants and cafes, while train rides or fishing trips in the Lappa Valley welcome your furry friends.

Overlooking Fistral, Hotel Esplanade offers guests a base with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. Dogs are welcome here, with dog beds and toys available, and there’s even a dedicated dog ‘tapas’ menu with a twist on dishes such as fish and chips or barbecue.

This Cornish hotel has spacious rooms, a spa and pool with easy access to the beach and rooms for the whole family – with a special focus on ‘making memories’, offering surf lessons and family-friendly activities.

Dog Friendly Things To Do In The Lake District

The Cotswolds have all the best walks and trails in the Lake District, but with much more beauty. Here there are villages full of beehive houses around small hills and acres of green, with plenty of walking opportunities, including peaceful river walks in villages such as Bibury and Bourton-on-the-water.

Snowshill Manor Farmhouse, part of the larger estate, is a National Trust property in the small village of Snowshill (near Broadway). It is a “real traveller’s haven”, with many dog and dog trails nearby, such as part of the 102-mile Cotswold Way, although visitors can also walk to nearby Stratford-upon-Avon or Chipping Campden. This cabin is spacious, modern and includes a wood stove to keep guests warm; There is enough space for two dogs, which means that large groups can rent this house.

Brighton is one of the most dog-friendly cities in England. There are plenty of walking routes around the city, its beaches, Pavilion Gardens and parks such as the South Downs, but Brighton is also home to dog-friendly businesses including pubs and cafes.

You can take your pup along the waterfront on the Volk Electric Railway or visit one of the city’s dog-themed events, such as the Dogtember event at Saltdeen Lido (where dogs and their owners can swim for four daily lessons between 9:00am and 9:00am on weekends) September and 1 October).

Grand Brighton is one of the best dog parks in the city. Dogs can be checked into any room and will receive a welcome pack with a blanket, water bowl and treats. Although pets are not allowed in the main restaurant or terrace, they can join you by the fire for dinner in the hotel’s Victoria Lounge and Bar.

Yorkshire is another great county to part with a family dog, with unspoilt countryside and seaside towns offering owners a variety of ways to fill their days. Whitby is one such town, found on the coast but only a few miles from the edge of the North York Moors National Park, so it’s a choice between a walk in the countryside or a run on the beach and sea.

Egton Estate is nestled among the hills and sits on 6,000 hectares of unspoiled nature. With acres of land and miles of creeks running through the property, it’s a great place to take a (well-behaved) dog, play with the owner’s rescue dog (and pick up some organic treats, too).

The Ayrshire countryside is acres of lush rolling hills and woodlands surrounding small villages, and Ayr is a popular Scottish seaside resort for day trips (there are dog-friendly walks and beach walks available).

But if you really want to get out into nature with your dog, stay at Mount Freedom Cabin. Nestled amongst the hills and overlooking the cliffs of Carrick Bay, all three of these cottages offer a tranquil retreat with stunning views across the water to the Isle of Arran. Dogs will enjoy running on the nearby beach or in the woods, and they can sit with you while you enjoy a meal at Anchorage, a bar near the village of Dunure. They’ll appreciate the fireplace as much as you do for a relaxing time (although they probably won’t appreciate the hot tub or the intense view).

Snowshill Manor Farmhouse is part of the estate of Charles Paget Wade, famous for collecting electricity.
