Dog Friendly Resorts Palm Springs – Palm Springs, California is located in the Coachella Valley region of the Sonoran Desert, about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. A popular tourist town for many years, Palm Springs is known for its natural hot springs, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, sunny weather, and of course, friendly dogs.

Downtown Palm Springs continues to evolve with new shops, restaurants, restaurants, and neighborhoods, such as the Uptown Design District on the North Side. The annual Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals draw attention to the desert city, and the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January attracts high-profile celebrities and an increasing number of visitors.

“Greater Palm Springs” includes eight cities in addition to Palm Springs: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio and Coachella. Tourism is the biggest contributor to the local economy. I recommend staying in Palm Springs and exploring these other cities by car. Palm Desert has a nice outdoor mall and is great for Indio/Coachella photos or if you attend a festival (without dogs).

We visited many dog-friendly places and when I say Palm Springs is the most dog-friendly city we’ve visited, I mean it! It’s hard to explain, but there’s a sense of welcome where we go with Ruby and hopefully that can be seen in the detailed guide.

Palm Springs has great weather year-round, but there is one specific time that is considered the best time to visit: winter and early spring. Palm Springs is extra special during the winter months from November to January as the rest of the country faces cold and snow, Palm Springs welcomes a display of sunshine and temperatures of 65 to 75 degrees.

When traveling to Palm Springs with your dog, I don’t recommend going any time after March. Unless your only plan is to stay poolside for the duration of your visit. Summer temperatures are usually around 100 degrees Fahrenheit and can reach up to 115 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity levels below 10%.

Living in Palm Springs and the surrounding desert area is full of atmosphere and one of my favorite things about visiting the city. I’m a big fan of mid-century modern architecture and desert luxury, so renting hotels and condos in this area makes me feel like I’m in heaven.

If you want to stay in downtown Palm Springs, there are several dog-friendly hotel options on Palm Canyon Dr. and Indian Canyon Dr. Perfect for walking to shops and restaurants. Check out ARRIVE Palm Springs, Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, The Colony Palms Hotel & Bungalows, and The Saguaro Palm Springs.

If you like renting a home (we always like direct access to the kitchen and outdoor space), go to Airbnb or VRBO and turn on the pet friendly feature. These are some of the rentals I have saved on my wish list. The photos below were taken while we spent the weekend at Mesa Tavira in Joshua Tree. You can find our full house tour on Instagram.

Palm Springs has always been a dog-friendly city, with sunshine 354 days a year and plenty of activities to welcome your pooch with open arms.

Boozehounds was founded by three friends from Palm Springs for one simple reason… they loved dogs and dreamed of a place where people could bring their dogs, enjoy a delicious cocktail or delicious meal, and mingle in style. This is the most dog-friendly restaurant we’ve been to for two reasons: 1) the dog menu is elite, offering fresh food options that accommodate common protein allergies, and 2) dogs can eat dinner in their atrium, which is perfect. When visiting in winter. We love brunch here and you can find us on Instagram.

4 Paws Coffee Company is another dog-themed spot in Palm Springs that you should check out. We were greeted with open arms as soon as we walked in the door, and the cafe was decorated with dog-centric decor and merchandise. We joined Rue at the cafe for pastries and coffee while she pampered herself with a cup of hot dogs. Purchases from the cafe help give back to local shelters and reinforce their mission of bringing quality coffee, food and connection to the Palm Springs community.

Merten Botanical Garden is a privately owned botanical garden created to share the beauty and extraordinary diversity of desert plants with all visitors. Desert trees, plants and cacti in particular come from all over the world and range in size from miniature to giant. They were the first dog kennels in the world, which is my favorite area of the garden, and they allowed leashed dogs in the garden.

Garden parking is located around the corner from the S. Palm Canyon Dr entrance. Admission is $5 per person, dogs are free. Guests can take a leisurely stroll around the hotel and explore this small garden in 30 minutes. We spent a bit more time here because I wanted to take photos in the giant panda house. If you visit during the week, you should be lucky and there will be almost no crowd.

What’s unique about Southern California is all the wind turbine stuff. They actually have an official tour in Palm Springs for a closer look, but I’m not sure if they allow dogs. We choose to explore ourselves.

To enjoy the backdrop below, take I-10 to Indian Canyon Drive and Garnett. If you are driving north through Indian Canyon, turn left on Garnet and go about 1/4 mile and you will see some places to park. There is little traffic in this area, so you can park wherever you want to shoot as long as it doesn’t block major roads.

I recommend going at sunset. The desert really shines at sunset and the sky looks like cotton candy, but the sun sets early, so arrive before the actual sunset time. There is a fence around the turbines, but you won’t really notice it against the shadowy backdrop of the hills and scrubland. You have to embrace it.

While there are some restrictions on visiting Joshua Tree National Park with your furry best friend, there are still some dog-friendly activities that allow you to experience different aspects of the park while visiting with your dog. We visited with Ruby several times and developed the perfect itinerary for a half or full day visit to Joshua Tree Park.

This midcentury neighborhood is a gem for those interested in midcentury modern architecture. Almost every home in Indian Canyons is built in a medieval style, with large glass windows, spacious porches and ample pool access. Hence it has a rich architectural history and incredible, sweeping mountain views.

Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort & Spa, In Palm Springs, California, Hotel Review

You may have seen some of these homes on Instagram, with their beautiful gardens and colorful front doors. The best way to enjoy these homes is to park and walk down the street. I especially like the houses in South Yosemite and Camino Real South.

Downtown Palm Springs has a dog-friendly environment. It’s a lively town full of unique shops, restaurants and art. Many people contacted us and we shared their thoughts about Ruby, and all the shop owners were immediately attracted to Ruby and wanted to give her their pets, water and treats. If you follow us on social media, you’ll know that Ruby has a strange case, but she quickly gets her pets to volunteer.

There’s plenty to do downtown, with major thoroughfares on Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Canyon Drive. I recommend looping and going with anything that sounds interesting. South Palm Canyon is edgier, while the northern area is trending for its current renaissance as an uptown design district.

Some of the shops I want to visit include: Ibis Women’s Boutique, Just Fabulous for Palm Springs Souvenirs, Peepas, Out West Trading Co, Covet Forever Jewelry, and Destination PSP. Destination PSP excels at mid-century home decor.

Our favorite downtown restaurants are Boozehounds, 1501 Uptown Gastropub, Ice Cream and Shop(pe), and Tac/Quila (get the churro ice cream sandwich).

In addition to shopping and dining downtown, you can check out some unique art exhibits scattered throughout the area, such as the larger-than-life sculpture of PS ❤️ you and Marilyn Monroe pictured above. If you have time, you can use this guide to find them all.

As you already know, Palm Springs has a thriving art scene, and in addition to large, dark sculptures, there are many murals throughout the city. My favorite is Palm Salam
