Dogs are welcome to accompany you when you visit Agnes Falls Scenic Reserve, as long as they are kept on a leash. There is a short 220-meter walk to the viewpoint or a longer riverside path 340 meters above the falls. It’s an easy walk but has some steps.
The protected area also has a picnic area, which includes a picnic shelter with two covered tables and a toilet. Keep an eye out for wildlife with echidnas and the occasional spotted otters as well as common possums after dark.
Trentham Falls is located on the edge of the picturesque town of Trentham, approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Daylesford. Just an 80-minute drive from central Melbourne, the Falls and surrounding area are an ideal day trip destination for Melbournians.
The falls are the longest single waterfall in Victoria, 32 meters in one fell swoop. On our trip through Victoria with our dog, I really wanted to visit the falls. However, it is in one of the wettest areas in Victoria and after days of heavy rain, not to mention previous reviews mentioning how muddy the trail (and leeches!) is, were not ideal conditions for a hike with our dog.
Dog Friendly Cairns
Toorongo Falls and the Amphitheater Observation Decks are accessed via a 2.2 km circular path and should take an hour to walk. The path goes through the forest and is designed to be well-formed, although stepped. The shorter 1.5 km return route only takes you to Toorongo Falls. Dogs are allowed off leash as long as they are kept under control.
If you’re visiting on the weekend, it’s a good idea to visit in the morning before the hikers arrive. There are two free campsites near the road which are free and naturally popular. Restrooms and a picnic area are located at the end of the trail.
The waterfalls on the Great Ocean Road are a popular attraction, but unfortunately most of them are off limits to dogs. Most are in areas of Great Otway National Park where dogs are not normally allowed, including the popular Erskine Falls and Sheoak Falls near Lorne.
However, some waterfalls accept dogs. One of the best dog-friendly waterfalls along the Great Ocean Road is Beauchamp Falls, located in Beauchamp Falls Reserve, part of Otway Forest Park. Dogs are allowed throughout Otway Forest Park and recent visitors confirm that the reserve has signs indicating that dogs are allowed on leads.

You can reach this waterfall while driving the Great Ocean Road by exiting Skenes Creek. From there it’s about a 50-minute drive along a narrow and windy road to the car park, which is located along Aire Valley Road off Beech Forest Road. The last 3 km is open, so probably skip this place if you’re driving a rental car.
You can reach these 20-meter jumps by following a 3-km return route through a wonderful rowan forest. Previous reviews have mentioned that the trail is quite strenuous with many steps that can be difficult for smaller dogs and can become slippery when wet. Let it recover for 1-1.5 hours.
There is also a small refurbished camping area in the car park – get in quick to find a spot, free and thanks to recent promotions. There are also restrooms, picnic tables, and fire pits.
Beauchamp Falls aren’t the only dog-friendly falls this side of the Otway Ranges. Another nearby dog-friendly waterfall is Stevensons Falls.
Dog Friendly Waterfalls In Victoria To Visit
To get to Stevensons Falls, also exit Skenes Creek, but then turn north towards the town of Forrest. It is a 45 minute drive from Skenes Creek. The exit to the 6 km dirt road is 5 minutes before Forrest. The road is good for 2×4 cars, except in heavy rain.
The living room is just a short and easy walk to the waterfall, although it can be muddy after a rain. There is also a campsite further down the access road. Back in Forrest, don’t miss the dog-friendly Forrest Brewery.
Access to the falls as well as the campground recently reopened in 2024 after a long closure for renovations. The update includes a new boardwalk and wheelchair access to the waterfall viewing platform. I’ve also heard reports that there is a small pine plantation worth visiting, which is useful considering the other pine plantation in Otway is off limits to dogs!
La Falls in the Warburton Valley has been delighting visitors since the 1880s. The falls are located south of the suburbs of Melbourne.
High Country For Dogs, Victoria, Australia
Park in the small car park off Old Warburton Road and then start the gentle path to the falls. About 1 mile each way, the trail winds alongside Four Mile Creek through lush forest. Allow 60–90 minutes for the return trip.
The falls are best in autumn and winter after heavy rains. However, this is also when the track gets pretty muddy. Dogs are welcome on the track; Check if they need to be linked as I have heard conflicting reports.
