Where before I could quickly pack my bags and head to the beach or the mountains, I now have to carefully research my destinations to make sure Hobbs is well taken care of whenever we travel.
Most, if not all of the high-end hotels in Cebu City and resorts in Mactan are pet-friendly, so I was happy to find these pet-friendly places. Note that most of them are far from the city itself.

On our first trip out of town, I brought Hobbs to Bantayan Island. We stayed at the Coral Blue Oriental Villas and loved our spacious room, especially the original bathroom.

The only downside was that I had to bring Hobbs downstairs every morning and afternoon for his daily walks and potty time. As the entire first floor of the flat was paved, I had to take it out onto the empty grassy area towards the HSBC building, which meant crossing a busy intersection.

The first two nights we stayed in their standard room. It’s smaller than the typical guest rooms we’re used to, but it has a balcony, which Hobbs really liked because it was airy.
On the third night, we were upgraded to the De Luca room, which was more spacious and had floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning sea views.

A few notes about pets at Tipana: They have pet dogs, and while the dogs at the resort are docile and gentle, the ones at the restaurant — strays that get fed occasionally, the staff tell me — are loud and annoying. A bit aggressive towards other dogs because every time they saw Hobbs they barked. Watch out for the cats too, because even if they didn’t come near us, their mere presence was enough to scare Hobbs. (He hates cats and chases them)
When it came to the pet policy, Tippani wasn’t strict either. I was not asked to sign a waiver. Hobbs was also allowed to go everywhere, even to the restaurant.
Our company had a picnic here and my colleagues and I were allowed to bring our pets. Unlike other resorts that only allow small to medium dogs, Carancho allowed my labrador to swim on the beach.

This place is ideal for a relaxing vacation with a child, primarily because its landscaped area is ideal for daily walks. Just take it from Hobbs. The photo below shows that he is indeed resting at Les Maisons. Ha-ha! Seriously, this kid sure knows how to channel his inner world (and cuteness).
They are also not strict about where pets are allowed. At first I walked Hobbs on a leash, but after she assured me that their dog Tracy was harmless, I let Hobbs roam the resort on his own.
Our two-story house was located right on the seashore. It is very spacious and I especially liked the large four poster bed. The balcony below had a great view of the sea which was very nice.

Les Maisons D’Itac also had several hammocks in strategic locations, and it was during this trip that Hobbs discovered a love for them. He especially liked to be gently rocked, and I think it was because he liked the feeling of the wind. Several times he even slept on them for hours!
Solea Resort used to allow dogs because Hobbs and I stayed there for my birthday last year, but when I checked earlier this year they said they no longer allow pets because some pet owners refused to follow their policy. When I researched, they said that even though these owners had signed a waiver, they allowed their dogs to swim in the pool. They also didn’t clean up after their pets. I was amazed when I heard this. Due to the irresponsible behavior of some owners, we are suffering the consequences, which is very unfortunate because the resort with its spacious grounds and private beach was perfect for mothers like me.
Hobbs especially loved their grounds so it’s a shame it’s no longer pet friendly as it’s one of the resorts closest to where we live.

Normally these resorts and hotels don’t allow dogs, but after telling them that Hobbs was well behaved and well traveled, they let him stay with me provided I agreed to their terms.
We stayed here during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were housebound for nine (9) months, so when we found out a friend was working here, we booked a room after she assured us that I could bring Hobbs.
To get Hobbs, I had to take his cart with me so I could hide him, which was difficult because the elevator was small. However, the staff were kind because after noticing that Hobbs wasn’t barking at all and was just following each other, they let him stay on the leash when we left the room.
The hotel was small and there was nothing to do in the area. Our room has a nice view of the sea.

We were here last month, and although they initially refused my request to bring Hobbs, they relented when I told them again that Hobbs travels a lot and has vaccinations and rabies shots. Their only request was that Hobbs be denied access to the bed, so I had to buy his bed. As an added precaution, I also brought a waterproof cover to protect the bed in case Hobbs jumps onto the rather low bed.
De Luca’s sea view room gave us a lovely view of the sea, although Hobbs was more interested in running around the garden facing the balcony and sniffing through the bushes after spotting a few cats wandering around.
He also loved the sea. Only two (2) rooms were occupied during our stay so we had the place to ourselves as other guests usually dived daily.
