Huttopia Adirondacks features more than 100 wood-frame and canvas tents inspired by French-Canadian explorers and designed for modern comfort. Most cabins have electricity, very comfortable beds (I even looked at the label to see where the comforter came from!), a wood stove, bathroom, shower, kitchen, and more.

Dog Friendly Weekend Getaway Near Nyc: Think Big! A Tiny House Resort

One of my favorite things about this trip was the late night sunset on Lake George.

We were hungry and didn’t want to sit and wait at a restaurant a short walk away, and we also didn’t feel like exploring restaurants in search of good food. So we returned to Hotopia and entered the cafe at 20:30.

A few minutes later we were eating two fresh pizzas hot from the wood oven and the best red wine I’ve had in a long time. 😱 We sat in the common room of the restaurant, played a game, ate, hung up and drove a minute to the hut.

From our perspective, camping in Hottopia is about being present and connecting with nature while enjoying the company of others, and the Adirondacks are the perfect place to do that. Hottopia Adirondacks

I was surprised to learn that Hutopia started in Europe in 1999 and is now available in France, Netherlands, Spain, China and Canada.

There are only 5 Hattopia locations in the US, and we’re lucky to have a couple here in the Northeast! Two in California, one in New Hampshire, Maine, and as I write this in New York.

Being located in the southern part of the Adirondacks, it is not far from CT. But they still enjoy the common wildlife of the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park. 🌲

Before you get to all the huts, there is a restaurant and café at the base of Hutopia.

In the morning, there’s a drink on the menu that will satisfy all your caffeine needs. Grab a latte, hot coffee, espresso, or tea before going for a walk! They also have fresh cakes and cakes or you can expect homemade pies.

In the evening, you can stop by for wood-fired pizza or enjoy the outdoor dining areas.

I’ve raved about pizza before and in this post (and you can trust me – I grew up near New Haven, CT on New Haven pizza! 🍕)

And they even have local beer and wine. I don’t drink much, but I had some of the best French wine in a long time and asked to take a photo of the label before I left. The café has something for everyone and no detail has been overlooked!

I hope you find your next great trip in the Southern Adirondacks in New York! Here you will have a shower, clean bed, bathroom, kitchenette and on-site restaurant! Like many pet parents, I try to find time to take my pup, Zoe, on dog adventures. Growing up in a nature-oriented family, my childhood was filled with long walks and trips. I can’t wait to make some of those memories with my little fur baby. So when Gateway Cabin Rentals offered us the chance to unplug for a week, I laced it up halfway in my hiking boots!

I’ve always heard of people traveling to upstate New York, but I’ve never visited in person. That all changed in the spring of 2019 when I had the opportunity to stay at Gateway Cabin in the Catskill Mountains.

Guide To Pet Friendly Getaways Near Nyc

Joined by my colleague Danielle and her dog Sawyer, we packed up our out-of-office letters and headed north to get away from the “always on” mentality and focus on the beautiful views and fresh mountain air.

We started the trip on Friday morning by going up to the hut. It was more relaxing than our usual Friday morning trip to the office, that’s for sure.

Foggy weather punctuated our scenic 120-mile flight north with a soundtrack and fresh air flowing through the car windows. The dogs loved to nap in the back seat, and Zoe took them out of my jacket.

For anxious four-legged travellers, comfort food can certainly come in handy, especially on longer trips, and it’s always within our reach. I wish I had brought Zoe’s D with us on the trip north.

A Paw Some Day In The Lake George Area

When we arrived at the kennels, the dogs couldn’t have been more keen to explore and we led them (or so they said they led us) around the property to our cozy little kennel. .

We were surprised by the smell of fresh wood when we walked into our home, and the perfect window lit up the entire place. Queen D was draped in freshly laundered sheets and her little and noticeable s’mores nessesser welcomed us to our home away from home for the next few days.

It had a small kitchen with all the basic cooking supplies, a small pantry with snacks for purchase, and a private bathroom with shampoo, conditioner, and shower.

After dropping off our luggage (see what we packed for our trip) we got back in the car and headed north to Albany, NY for coffee and an early lunch. We weren’t originally planning to visit Albany, but since we’d never been there before and were so close, our inner explorers convinced us to head to the state capital.

Discover The Best Dog Friendly Campgrounds In Upstate New York

After a quick coffee at Stax Espresso Bar – a local dog-friendly café that serves a variety of teas, coffees, pastries and milk options – we explored the city on foot.

Most of Albany’s restaurants, shops, and cafes are well-organized and dog-friendly, and this beautiful state capital has a lot to explore! We walked down historic Lark Street, whose old storefronts and brownstones reminded us of New York City. We then headed to the New York State Department of Education building which opened in 1912. We did not have a chance to enter the building. But we were in awe of the 90-foot marble columns in front. The dogs enjoyed playing with us in front of the nearby grass park, and we headed to the Iron Gate Café for a bite to eat.
