Dog Friendly Resorts Hudson Valley – Our pet-friendly Kingston, NY location is the premier dog-friendly resort in the Hudson Valley! Kingston was far, but too far from the other sites we wanted to see, so our first step was to move the camp south, near Newburgh. Which puts us within walking distance of the dog-friendly attractions on our list, and we have plenty to choose from! In fact, it’s too much to include in another blog… so here are the things we did in the middle of the Hudson Valley, and next time we’ll give you the right Southern Hudson Valley things!
No trip to the Hudson Valley would be complete without a stop at the Walkway Over the Hudson. At 212 feet above the river, the 1.28-mile-long pedestrian bridge is the longest in the world and the best place to admire the river that carved this incredible valley. Since its opening in 2009, nearly 2,000,000 people have walked, biked, walked, run and rolled over the former railway bridge. If you have a long walk, pick up a map at the kiosk and you can walk one of the hiking trails that runs through downtown Poughkeepsie and across the Mid-Hudson Bridge.

Even a reminder about the hot landscape and being careful not to burn the kids’ towels is well done, and the benches along the path are perfect for taking a break and enjoying the view.

Tee got so jealous when he saw the doll that he discovered the “going for a walk” thing! But he was still in a good mood to play a little on the way back to the car, pretending to be a Jack Russell.
After working on a hobby on the road, we are ready to embark on a different path…the wine path! There are many wine and beverage trails to choose from in the Hudson Valley, and the Shawangunk Trail covers the heart of the valley. We posted a map with good intentions, but we only made one stop, good thing though, being the oldest beer in the United States!
Brotherhood Winery was founded in 1839, when the underground cellars were dug by hand. The cellars are still used today and aged in 200 oak barrels created here. Tours and tastings are offered, though be sure to plan your visit around the winery’s special events when pets are not allowed.
While the tour and tasting room are not pet-friendly, dogs are welcome on the grounds and they have a nice patio where you can taste wines and, if you’re lucky, enjoy live, live music.

Make sure you come hungry, because you won’t want to miss Vinum Café! I initially came in to order takeout so we could sit on the patio with the dogs, but chef-owner Christian Pierl talked me down and insisted I take the kids into his great room. He would never have known the place existed if he hadn’t said something, and it would have been a huge shame to miss it! The patio door is near the back…
It’s quiet, shady, and cute, and we’re lucky, because Tee and Buster have the best dog eating habits. The cook even stops to praise them and brings them a jug of water to make sure they are not thirsty. Lunch was good and tasty, and just as we were finishing, the kids received their own specials from the kitchen: leftover ribs ready to serve for dinner that night! I think it’s fair to say that Chef Christian is now men’s favorite man in the world!
After our lunch, we were all ready for a walk, so we stopped for a walk along the river in Newburgh. It’s not a very long walk, actually a few blocks, but there is a nice little park and some interesting places to eat, although we didn’t find anyone who welcomed dogs on their porch. Of course, you can always get your order to go and sit on a bench and people watch while you eat.
We had a great time, and that was half the fun we had on our visit to the Hudson Valley! Next week we’ll show you more dog-friendly activities we’ve found in this beautiful part of New York.
