Boston is a destination that truly has it all. Quigley and I lived in the city for several years, and together we explored every nook and cranny, within easy reach of the bustling city center, vast parks, and charming colonial districts. The area is beautiful in any season, but summer and fall are when the area shines for dog lovers because Bostonians know how to appreciate the sunshine.

Many of the nation’s most important historical sites lie along the Freedom Trail, a paved path that leads visitors past historical markers that tell the story of the American Revolution. This trail runs on Boston Common, which has an off-leash dog park for companions. In the area, hikers can visit other historical sites, such as Acorn Street in Acon Hill, one of the most photographed streets in the United States, or the Public Gardens, where There are statues of Making Way for Ducklings that Mrs. Clinton commissioned. Mallard leads his family of ducklings.
Boston is known for its outdoor festivals, both cultural and themed, such as the annual Dog Festival, which is literally a celebration of dogs!

If you’re looking for foliage instead of fishing, visitors can find many options nearby. Nashoba Valley Winery is one of many orchards that allow dogs to pick apples. If you want to immerse yourself (metaphorically) in the colorful trees for a few hours, you can visit one of the many nearby nature reserves, such as Blue Hills.
New York City has it all – landmarks, fine dining, parks, shopping and art, to name just a few highlights. People who enjoy walking around the city and visiting sites will be happy to know that the streets of New York welcome dogs.

Grab your camera and visit the city’s biggest attractions. Classics like Thesda Terrace, Grand Central Station, the New York Public Library, and DUMBO (Brooklyn’s pet-friendly neighborhood) are just a few of the dog-friendly places you and your dog can enjoy. You can pose and explore. If your dog needs a moment, New York has plenty of dog parks.
A trip to New York City wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the shops. Local seafood favorite Stewman’s proudly welcomes dogs to its deck with enthusiastic signs.
Just a 15-minute drive outside the city takes you to beautiful Acadia National Park. It has 158 miles of hiking trails and 45 miles of carriage roads, where pets are allowed to explore with their active parents.
For a relaxing experience, head to Jordan Pond House for its famous house popovers and tea, followed by a leisurely stroll around the pond. Then drive to the top of nearby Cadillac Mountain to watch the sunset.

John, the owner, is known to take groups to see the mysterious Lights on his planet bus. Ever the consummate host, John entertained Quigley for hours as he swapped personal stories.

New Orleans is the city where I spent so much of my youth and I can’t wait to return with my four-legged friend! This city has no shortage of inspiration, with color, music and historical details everywhere. The city is walkable, delicious and offers a world-class experience. Travel + Leisure has called New Orleans “America’s #1 Culinary City” and you would say the same if you weren’t full.
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stop (or four) at Café du Monde. Dogs can join their parents on the terrace, but my personal recommendation is to order one. Enjoy coffee and toast just steps away from the cafe as you watch street performers dance, sing and juggle in front of iconic Jackson Square. If you prefer a more elaborate performance with your meal, Broussard’s offers a three-course jazz brunch.
For a simple and classic New Orleans meal, you can’t go wrong with the po’ boy. Quigley enjoys small bites from Johnny’s Po-Boys, the oldest family restaurant in New Orleans. Dogs are not allowed inside, so we recommend a to-go picnic by the river. Nearby, Woldenrg Park has many nches, rolling lawns and great views of the river.
New Orleans also has a haunted history and the city allows you and your pets to playfully engage in some spooky fun. After dark, the city offers a variety of spooky walks and some groups, such as the French Quarter Phantoms or Witches Brew, allow dogs to join.
