What To Take To Hawaii On Vacation – If you’ve ever been on a Hawaii vacation, you know that once you travel to Hawaii you’ll forever want to return for another trip. Think lightweight clothing, workout clothes for endless walks, and versatile swimsuits for sunny hikes. Before you head out on any road trip, it’s important to know what to pack, so I’ve created a “packing list for Hawaii” of things to bring (and not bring) to the Hawaiian Islands.

What To Take To Hawaii On Vacation
It’s always humid when traveling by plane, so you should plan to bring light clothing. You’ll probably want to pack for the beach and comfort food. But there are lots of beautiful hikes in Hawaii, so make sure you pack plenty of activewear. Additionally, developments can be very complex, so don’t count on reusing any active software! A great rule of thumb is to bring a wet bag for any clothing items that are too wet to repack.
Things To Know Before Your Trip To Hawaii
I created this listing for a 5-night stay in Hawaii. If you plan to stay longer or shorter, remove or add items as you see fit. I think you should remember that you should leave your nice/fancy clothes at home. Since most of Hawaii’s attractions are outdoor adventures, you’ll generally wear casual clothing. Except for the occasional dinner dress.
These Levi’s shorts from Revol are another favorite. Check out: Abercrombie and Free People for easy and affordable basics. Swimsuits are always hard to find, but I’ve found the most affordable swimsuits to be Somersault and Revolve. I finally found some great lululemon dupes that are much better at a very low price on my Amazon store, check them out here!

Use this air packing checklist as you shop and prepare for your trip to the islands. From clothing to beach accessories to camera gear you’ll want to take with you to Hawaii, we’ve got you covered.
Your backpacking checklist should start with beachwear because you’ll likely be spending a lot of time on the sand. Bring at least two swimsuits so you can dry one each day. But don’t forget your breezy beach clothes to go swimming from poolside to lunch.
Swimsuit Bring two or more swimsuits to Hawaii so you can wear one while the other dries. If you plan to try surfing or other water sports, having an auxiliary or full coverage option will come in handy. One of my favorite swimsuits is a sports bra-like top that can easily transition from swimming to rowing.
Plus Size Hawaii Vacation Outfits
Swim cover-up Airy dresses make it easy to go from the beach to lunch without needing to return to the hotel, while sarongs are perfect for a quick trip to the beach or poolside snack bar.
Beach shorts Bring lightweight shorts that dry easily to wear over your swimsuit. Board shorts are also useful for kayaking and surfing.
Rash Guard | These are perfect for surfing or other water sports and provide extra sun protection at the beach. Not necessary unless your beach trips are very active.
Wear comfortable Hawaiian summer clothes for lunch at your resort, on a trip, or on a little Hawaiian road trip. The islands are very comfortable and afternoon temperatures are warm, so anything from shorts to pants are acceptable for daytime activities.
Ways To Take Your Hawaii Adventure To The Next Level
Summer dresses and Hawaiian print dresses can be worn to the beach or paired with cute sandals and cardigans for shopping and poolside dinners.
Shorts If you’re packing light, opt for neutral-colored shirts like white, tan or navy blue paired with a brightly colored top. Linen shirts dry faster than denim shirts, so they are perfect for beach wear.
Top | Lightweight tops and t-shirts pair well with shorts and can be layered to mix and match.
Overalls | Jumpsuits are an easy two-in-one outfit for brunch, outings, and day trips. They also fit easily into a swimsuit.
What To Wear In Hawaii: The Ultimate Guide (2023)
Your weather packing list should include activewear for outdoor adventures and exercise. What you need to pack for Hawaii hiking will depend on the length and difficulty of the trail; Some can be managed with your beach clothes and shorts, while others require appropriate footwear, a rain jacket or warm clothing.
Tank Tops and Sports Bras Sports bras and tank tops make the perfect base layer for walking. If the weather is a little cold or windy, wear a long-sleeved t-shirt or rain jacket.
Leggings Tights or athletic shorts are ideal for air walking. You’ll be more comfortable on later hot days, but the legs are useful for hiking in the higher elevations of Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.
Long Sleeves A long-sleeved top, sweatshirt, or popover will keep you warm on morning hikes or in places like Upcountry Maui.
Family Fun In Hawaii
Raincoat If you are visiting in rainy weather, wear a raincoat or windbreaker. These can also come in handy on speedboat trips.
Warm clothing It may seem crazy, but you may need a heavy jacket or thermal layer for some activities in Hawaii, especially if you head to the volcanic peaks on Maui and the Big Island at the peak of Sunrise during the busiest times of the day. Haleakala Lookout is a popular activity, and it can stay below freezing there year-round. Consider a foldable puffer jacket that will help you stay warm without taking up too much space. You can also layer your hiking clothes for extra warmth.
Before planning what to wear for an evening in Hawaii, decide if you have formal dinner reservations. Most of the restaurants here are quite casual, and most have an open dining room. But you may be a fan of the resort’s dining options or want to treat yourself.
Dresses Maxi dresses and skirts are perfect for Hawaiian evenings. A Hawaiian vacation is the perfect opportunity to wear all the colorful floral prints.

Floral blouses and floral print tops in bright colors liven up neutral skirts and trousers for lounging and dinner.
White Pants White pants aren’t just for summer in Hawaii. Light colors and airy fabrics keep the atmosphere fit all year round.
Wrap A lightweight cardigan, shawl or shawl is a must-have for cool, breezy evenings in Hawaii.
Why You Need To Visit Hawaii In The Winter
Hawaii vacations are the perfect opportunity to see all the fun floral prints, sparkly jewelry, and stylish sunglasses. They don’t take up much space when packing, so if your pack is light, accessories can also help you coordinate your outfits.
Sun hat A wide-brimmed panama or straw hat provides much-needed protection from the sun.
