We’ve analyzed the listings of over 52,600 dog-friendly and non-dog-friendly businesses in the UK’s 20 most populous cities on Tripadvisor to find out the best and best dog-friendly cities. As a card issuer for businesses across the UK, we love it when four legs can be as happy as two.

Looking at the 20 most populous cities in the UK, we’ve rated each one by the percentage of dog-friendly hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs. We then combined and scored each metric to get an overall dog-friendly business score for each 100 cities.
Brighton and Hove has more dog-friendly restaurants than anywhere else in the UK. 4% of restaurants in the region allow dogs, while 4.3% of cafes do too – and may even offer your dog a snack if they’re on their best behavior. When it comes to bars, 7.7% like to let their dog soak up the atmosphere, but it’s the hotels that really take the crown – 33.6% let you and your dog enjoy your stay.
Edinburgh also loves dogs. 16.3% of hotels allow dogs, while Sheffield has slightly less at 14.1%. One thing the Iron City loves is dogs in bars – 11.9% of places allow dogs to drink water while you enjoy a bar.
London is the most dog-friendly, but comes 17th overall, while Wakefield is the proud home of the most dog-friendly restaurants – 12.5% overall.

Using the same user-friendliness criteria, we also looked at the world’s most populous cities to see how they compare.
Hungary’s capital, Budapest, has more dog-friendly businesses than any other city. It offers visitors 28.3% of hotels that are dog-friendly, along with 6.1% of restaurants, 6.3% of cafes and 4.7% of restaurants.
Mexico City is the second best option for tailgating, with 22.6% of the city’s hotels being dog-friendly and 5.6% of bars being dog-friendly.
Brussels completed the top three. The city is not only beautiful to explore, but also great to see from a dog’s perspective. 32.3% of hotels allow dogs and 7.8% of bars allow dogs.

Do you allow dogs in your hotel? You are likely to average 4.08 stars in the UK’s most populous cities. However, when dogs are included, that score rises to 4.11 stars, which shows how much power owners have in voting.
These are the best cafes when they are dog friendly. Without four-legged friends, they have an average score of 4.07 out of 5. But when they open the door to people and their pets, the score jumps to 4.49 – a difference of 10.3%.
