Just a few hours further along the shores of Lake Huron is another favorite stop of ours, Tawas Point! This dog beach is the only beach in Michigan that is actually fenced, where dogs can run off leash in a designated area. The campground is also dog-friendly, so you can bring your dog for a weekend of summer fun!

The Boathouse Beer Company & Brewery is another great stop where you can dine on the patio with your pet. Located in the center of Tavas, they have great food and drinks, and there is another small park across the street that is dog friendly too!

If you’re looking for a unique experience that you can enjoy with dogs in Michigan, Mackinac Island is it. Take one of our dog-friendly ferries – Star Line or Shepler – for a car-free island tour – a unique experience! Once there, you can explore over 70 miles of trails and viewpoints, dine at one of the many local dog-friendly restaurants, and even explore historic Fort Holmes with your dog. Can. When we travel, we stay at the Staybridge Inn & Suites, which is located right in the middle of town. Jump at one of the area’s many waterfalls, and if you’re feeling adventurous, you can also jump at Dead River Falls, a moderate but short 1.7-mile round trip. Traverse City has been named one of America’s best small towns, and it definitely lives up to the hype. It’s also very dog ​​friendly, and we try to visit at least once a year! The Greater Traverse City area is one of Michigan’s premier wine regions, with over 40 wine varieties located throughout the peninsula. Come wine tasting day, and bring your dog to some of our favorite spots, like Marie Vineyards, Left Foot Charlie, and Bonobo, all of which welcome canine visitors!

If you’re looking for something to eat, check out the Downtown Filling Station or The Little Fleet, a food truck that takes dogs inside, for some of the best pizza we’ve ever eaten. They also have amazing craft cocktails in the main building!

If you want to take a hike or check out some of the famous blue water beaches, the Good Harbor Bay Trail and Beach is pet-friendly and does not disappoint! This is a 2.7 mile lightly trafficked loop road to a quiet sandy beach. Shingles Dogs are welcome at the recycling and beach, as long as they are cleaned up afterward.

If you want to visit Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Park, check out Beulah and the surrounding area! Dogs are not allowed on some trails during the summer due to the endangered lakeshore pipelovers, but from December 1 to March 31, other trails in the park become accessible.
