Who Can Watch My Dog When I Go On Vacation – The biggest challenge I ever faced with Luna was her separation anxiety. He is good with people. Be respectful to other dogs. And when it’s time to leave home, hide your valuables. For a long time that was our best option (after trying and failing to keep him in his crate). Over the years, we have learned many important lessons and lost many shoes. Luckily we were able to and he is more comfortable alone.
If you have a dog with similar anxiety or destructive behavior when you are home alone, be sure to read on. I’m sharing some of my favorite ideas for keeping your dog happy or occupied when you can’t be with him.

A classic for sure. You can fill the KONG with peanut butter, yogurt, bananas, fruit, kibble, or your favorite dog food. This will keep your dog busy while you are away. Freeze it to keep longer. You can buy a KONG at most pet stores or order one from Amazon. They have a variety of options for puppies or aggressive chewers in several size options. West Paw makes a great selection including Tux.
Food dispenser toys are another way to keep food-motivated puppies occupied when you’re away from home. These toys are interactive and require your dog to physically play with them in order to get food or treats. This encourages them to go ahead and solve the puzzle to get the prize inside. Some of my favorites are the PetSafe Tug-A-Jug, KONG Wobbler, StarMark Bob-A-Lot, PetSafe Magic Mushroom, and Planet Dog Snoop.
My Dog Would Die For Me. Now He Is Dying And All I Can Do Is Watch. Or So I Thought.
A TV made especially for this dog! Television can help block out outside noise that can cause unnecessary stress for your dog, but it also provides visual and mental stimulation to keep your dog occupied when you can’t be with them. It can help prevent stress, loneliness, and potentially dangerous behavior.

If your dog likes his toys, try hiding them in different corners of the house before you leave. It will encourage your dog to explore and perhaps stumble upon different toys while on the trail. This provides both the mental and physical stimulation your dog needs. Giving them something positive to do will also help reduce destructive behavior from anxiety and boredom.
When Is It Too Hot To Walk A Dog?
You can try giving them their favorite toys when you go. In this way they associate something good with you instead of everything bad.
Another alternative to the above concept is to treat instead of games. If your dog eats kibble, you can hide it. This will lead them to explore and find hidden treats as you go, which will give them physical and mental stimulation.
If you’re short on time, consider hiding KONG dolls or food toys instead of just treating yourself. It will take time for your dog to work.
If you have a puppy or just a high-energy dog, the best strategy is to tire them out before you head out the door. You can go for a long walk or run, hit the dog park, spend time exercising, or anything else you and your dog enjoy doing together. If they’ve spent enough energy before you leave, hopefully they’ll want to rest when you leave.

Okay, so this is a little deep. Only consider this option if you have the time, money, space, and common sense to add another dog to your family. Remember you have them for life! However, adding Ralph to our family has helped a lot with Luna’s separation anxiety and the added company has greatly improved her behavior when she is home alone.
Of course it’s not a guaranteed result because not all dogs get along. If you see any of these things, make sure your existing puppy meets the new one before you agree to bring him home. Most rescues are supposed to be good because they want to make sure the dogs they take in have the best possible lives and want to avoid any potential problems in the first place.
I wasn’t sure how Ralph or Luna would react when I first put it on DOGTV. We used to turn on a random TV channel to drown out the stress when we had to leave him home alone. But they began to see immediately! The sound and visual content certainly caught their attention and continued to catch their interest as it changed.
DOGTV aims to provide scientifically proven visual content to help dogs feel more confident and happy with less stress, separation anxiety, or boredom. DOGTV also works with the Humane Society of the United States to help keep dogs happy and in forever homes. Every time a dog enjoys DOGTV, it helps support HSUS’s Animals for Life program.
