Many of the larger beaches have seasonal restrictions, but Cornwall, with its hidden coves, quiet sands and secluded beaches, has a dog-friendly coastline where you can keep your dog all year round.
Cornwall’s seasonal curfew is generally 10am to 6pm on some beaches from 1 July to 31 August. However, some beaches have extended curfews from 10am to 6pm between May 15 and September 30. Check the Cornwall Council website for a full list of areas subject to the ban.
But despite the rainy season ban, there are still plenty of places you can take your dog for a fantastic day at the beach, whether you’re looking for a breezy winter walk or a sunny summer holiday.
There are beaches around St Ives Bay that are perfect for a day out with your four-legged friend. Gorgeous Sand Hale, just south of Guithian Tovans, welcomes dogs with three miles of open golden sand stretching into the Black Hills of the Riviera.

Alternatively, take your pup to the pristine beaches of Peters Point, Upton Town and Mexico City. Connected by a winding coastal road along a windswept sandy beach and overlooking the famous Godrevy Lighthouse, you can expect plenty of space and beautiful surroundings.
Once across the river you can take a short coastal walk or drive from Carbys Bay to Portkidney Beach, located between the Hayle Estuary and Hawke’s Point. With The North Face offering a wide stretch of sand, it’s easy to see how artist John Miller found his muse in this emotionally inspiring beach.
Aside from the ‘secret’ Bamlooze Beach between St Ives Harbor and Porthguid Beach (which is only revealed at low tide), holidaymakers can head west to some of Cornwall’s most dog-friendly beaches.
Past wild moors and steep cliffs, Porteras Cove between Morwa and Penden offers a wonderful retreat, while Priests Cove in Cape Cornwall offers a picturesque sunset-framing spot for a picnic or barbecue.

Equally spectacular, Gwenver Beach near Land’s End is not only a surfer’s paradise but also a dog owner’s dream. Although it’s not the most accessible beach, the hidden neighborhood of Senn Cove is well worth its cliffside location and offers the peaceful, rugged charm typically reserved for island escapes.
On the western Atlantic edge of Land’s End, past the famous Minack Theatre, you’ll discover a fascinating collection of exotic-looking bays, including the crystal waters of Nancigal and the very romantic Pedon Wanderer of Porthcurno. However, it is best to ask locals and lifeguards about how to best access these tidal beaches.
Head west towards Penzance and you’ll find Roskilly Beach on the mountain pass between Mousehole and Newlyn. Werytown Beach at Newlin Art Gallery has a rocky and dog-friendly beach.
Newlyn welcomes the gently curved hills of Penzance Promenade (tidal dependent) beach and the sand dunes of Long Rock Beach, home of Marazion, to the iconic Mount St. Michael.

Head east along Cornwall’s south coast and you’ll discover a world of surf caves, exposed headlands and hiking trails. Cross Marazion and you’ll discover the delights of Prussia Cove, with beautiful scenery offering everything from breathtaking beaches to fields of wildflowers.
