DENVER – There’s no shortage of dog-friendly patios in Denver, but if owners want their dogs to run free at a restaurant or bar, they’re out of luck. But that’s about to change with an off-leash dog bar set to open at the end of the year.
There Are 16 Dog Parks In Denver. That’s Not Enough For Canine Owers
When Leighton Judd and his partner, Louise Faiz, moved to Denver, they were surprised that nothing like this had been found. They had visited dog food stands in other cities across the country.
“We fell in love with the idea because it was fun to have dogs on a leash. The dog seemed very happy, the owner seemed happy. There was a sense of community,” Fahys said.
After months of working with the City of Denver to find the right locations and codes to pull it off, construction can finally begin on Happy Dog Park and their Taproom.
“It’s the first one in Denver that’s open from start to finish. There are others who have come in and opened and added dog areas. So it set a precedent, so we thank them for that,” Judd said of other similar businesses. Denver is now closed.
The Best Dog Friendly Patios In Denver
The building will have a cafe, self-service beer taps and televisions. Outside, there will be a dog-friendly patio that leads directly to the 4,000-square-foot dog park.
“You’ll be able to drink here with your dog. So you’ll be able to relax in the Adirondack chairs and just have a good time,” Judd said.
For security purposes, there will be a six-meter fence around the park. Certain rules will also be followed to reduce noise in the vicinity.
“We’ll only be open until 8:00 at night, which means the park itself. The table and the restaurant will be open later, but the park won’t be open at 8:00 at night,” Judd said.

When Happy Dog is open, owners can upload their dog’s vaccination records using a QR code. Once the documents are verified, they can enjoy the place. There will also be “Woferees” who will watch the dogs.
“Somebody in the back, who’s actually watching the dogs, you know, to notice what signs they might have if somebody’s going to be aggressive. And then you notice,” Fahys said.
“To get the community involved to have a place to go without fear of anything and let your dogs be in a safe place. That’s really what it’s all about,” Judd said.
The co-owners are working out a final price. There will be options for daily, monthly or yearly payment.

They are considering possible ranges from $15 for a daily visit to $300 for an annual membership.
