It can be difficult to know if the views and walks around Katoomba are in the Blue Mountains National Park. While the Prince Henry Cliff Walk is within the National Park, the section around Katoomba Falls between the old Katoomba Falls Kiosk and Cliff View Lookout is outside the National Park, where dogs are off leash.
If you visit during the day, you’ll get more views, especially on the west side of the walk. Take in Orphan Walk views of the mighty Jamison Valley below and of course the Katoomba Falls. However, for a different experience, return after dark on an illuminated walkway like the Katoomba Falls Night Light Walk.
At night, the lights will come on and stay on until 10:30 p.m., and the dogs will accompany you. The highlight of our visit after dark was the beautifully illuminated Katoomba Falls. Standing at the Cliff View Lookout, looking out over the vastness of the valley below without a single light was awe-inspiring.
The easiest parking is at Katoomba Falls Reserve, free parking next to an unmarked car park in a partially fenced oval. Although there are a few steps on the west road, the road is completely paved except for a glance. At the top of the Furber Steps and up to the Cliff View Lookout, look out for a sign pointing to the edge of the National Park.
