While there are countless trails in the Northwoods, some of the widest and easiest trails are some of the most scenic railroads in the area. These abandoned tracks, which have naturally become popular hiking, biking and ice skating trails, are easily accessible at many intersections with roads. They are generally flat with gradual changes in elevation, but pass through beautiful scenery with goats above lakes, rivers and swamps. Choose between the Bearskin State Trail, which runs from Minocqua to Harshaw. The Hiawatha Trail, which connects to the southern end of the Bearskin Trail and extends south to Sara Park on the Tomahawk. Three Eagle Trails with two sections—one at each of the three lakes and one at the Eagle River—are connected by a 2.5-mile cross-country trail.
