Dog Friendly Lodging Oregon Coast

Dog Friendly Lodging Oregon Coast – Traveling to Cannon Mountain with our kids and dog because that’s how we travel now and we found a dog friendly hotel in Oregon.

We haven’t been to the Oregon coast in years. And that’s not to say we don’t like it, it’s just that we often head to northern BC to see family and Seattle to Vancouver is about the same distance as Seattle to Portland or Seattle to Cannon Beach. But this year we’re heading everywhere within a three-hour radius of Seattle, and since that (hopefully soon) doesn’t include BC anymore, we decided to spend a few days in Cannon Beach and Portland. Not only did we want to find things to do in Cannon Beach with kids, but with our yorkie poo Scout, we also wanted to find dog-friendly hotels in Oregon.

We had the most wonderful trip to Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach last year for my husband’s birthday where we saw Haystack Rock from our room and also enjoyed a meal at the Wayfarer Restaurant. When I found out that Surfsand was also a dog-friendly hotel, it seemed like the perfect choice for our current travel situation. I had to call the dog room and ended up with a very spacious suite with a giant bathtub overlooking the ocean and a deck where we could drink coffee and see Haystack Rock. The kids are excited to go to the pool here too – the pool is open but guests have limited time so the kids feel very safe swimming in the pool for the first time in a year.

Unlike our usual trips, we spend most of our time in the room or on the beach. We called in our order and went to pick up our plates at Seasons Cafe and Pizza A’fetta. Since our room had a mini-fridge, we picked up yogurt, crackers, and fruit at the Costco in Tumwater. This is our only stop for restrooms and refreshments between Seattle and Cannon Beach.

We also ordered room service from Wayfarer Restaurant and had an impressive dinner. After not eating out in a restaurant for almost a year, it was great to have a real meal in our hotel room and the food was delicious. (A friend gave us a very good glass of wine, which made the meal even more special.)

Surfsand Resort also had cookies in the lobby every day around 3pm while we were there. And on the weekend, the list of activities says that they like to do the usual social ice cream and beer/root beer tasting but a social phase where you collect things to enjoy in your room or on the beach.

The biggest reason they went to Cannon Beach was Scout’s birthday. We want to take him to the beach because he loves digging and running in the sand and we are so grateful for all the joy he has brought to our lives over the past year. I was worried that it would be too windy or rainy in the winter, but we had a beautiful sunny day and Scout had the best weather. We brought toys and movies and books and it was very peaceful just sitting together in the room. Comfortable even though we all do things differently.

The 10 Best Pet Friendly Hotels In Oregon Coast 2024

I wanted to break away from the coast and look at Kimpton River Place and it’s not a very high hotel (it looks like maybe 3 floors in the picture and I don’t want to take the elevator that far and risk people. Try to share) and you don’t have to pay extra dog fee at Kimpton hotel. I didn’t realize how useful this was until I had kids. Since all other hotels and places Scout and I have charged an additional pet fee in that year The Scout doesn’t leak and weighs almost 5 pounds, so it’s great that you don’t have to pay the Kimpton hotel fee.

Our room had a cool decor with a wood burning fireplace and a view of the river and Scout seemed to feel right at home in this place. At night, every bird in Portland takes refuge at our window and it reminds me of the scary bird movies I saw as a child, but they’re not loud or annoying, so it’s mostly just fun for everyone else.

We found out that Scout didn’t like the elevator because we ended up on the 2nd floor and there were no stairs to access the Kimpton Riverplace. We put her Fresh Patch grass (I think Fresh Patch grass is the best invention for a puppy!) so we don’t have to walk her up and down as much but we make her pancakes every now and then.

We usually can’t visit Portland without stopping at VooDoo donuts, but this time we didn’t check out much so I thought we’d change it up. We’ve been obsessing over places in and around Seattle lately, Naturally I have a mochi place pinned in Portland as well. We ordered delivery of donuts from CoCo donuts and tried four different types of mochi donuts and compared to Seattle donuts were very reasonable and very tasty.

Three Pet Friendly Stays On The Oregon Coast

This trip was about Scout’s birthday so we wanted a puppy to celebrate and we got the cutest ones from Puppernickel in Hillsboro that I pre-ordered the day before we arrived. It even has the name of Scout! I wish I had a better picture of the cupcakes before we broke out the frosting – our room wasn’t ready when we arrived, so this cupcake went with us on our tour of Bob’s Red Mill and Powell’s Bookstore a bit late. Scout didn’t care at all. He thought it was delicious and we shared a little because this cake was almost as big as his.

We took our Nespresso machine with us on our trip to the Olympic Peninsula last year and even used it on the beach in the back of our Toyota Highlander. This time we wanted to make hot chocolate and maybe Cup Noodles, so I brought our bottle from home and the travel pourigami dripper we got from Miir in Seattle in our last Trove box. It’s nice to have fresh coffee every morning (we bring the beans of Boon Phahn to eat) and I usually like to go to coffee shops, but this time I don’t feel like going on a coffee trip like usual. Our Surfsand room has a Keurig coffee maker with full pods from Sleepy Monk, a local Cannon Beach coffee company, so that’s a plus.
