Rich in history and the site of Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home, Lincoln State Park has more than 10 miles of trails, rolling hills and two lakes. Dogs are welcome to accompany you in this park. You can see the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, a pioneer farm, the site of Lincoln’s cabin, the grave of Abraham Lincoln’s mother, and the historic Twelve Stone Trail. Do you want to stay all day? You can camp in this park! It’s a great place for a night out.
If the covered bridge brings to mind the famous movie, you know why this region in Iowa is a special place. Your dog is welcome to accompany you on the many covered bridges in this part of Iowa. Madison County is Iowa’s largest covered bridge. This region has the largest collection of covered bridges in one area! Since there are many bridges accessible on dirt roads, leave the RV back at the campsite while you explore.
In more than six years of traveling with pets, when I think of the place that has impressed me the most, it is at the base of the chalk pyramid in Kansas. Not many travelers know about this place, but here’s a secret! On the western edge of Gove County, Kansas are Monument Rocks. This is a group of large chalk monoliths called the Chalk Pyramids. Let the dog off the leash and you will feel like you are in another world. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Originally from Florida, we love the beach! But after visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Brickle and Digby, I now understand sea life! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has miles of beaches and cliffs towering over Lake Michigan. Like many places, there are some beaches that don’t allow dogs, so check with the friendly park staff, get a map, or search online. We found that Brickle and Digby have more places to go on this beautiful lake side than we expected. But note that dogs are not allowed on the mounds for safety reasons.
Your dog will feel as tall as Paul Bunyan when you take him to Bemidji, Minnesota! This was a great stop for us on our trip. Meet Paul Bunyan and Babe The Blue Ox’s great photos. This roadside attraction has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988. Built in 1937, Paul Bunyan and the Blue Ox Babe sits on the shores of Lake Bemidji near Downtown. After you get the best photos of your dog, visit nearby Itasca State Park. Here you can see where the Mississippi River begins, hike, and have a picnic!
Named after the largest cave within the park, Indian Cave State Park is located along the main Missouri River. Your dog will thank you for taking him on camping trips, picnics and 22 mile walks! Indian Cave is the largest geological structure in the park and contains ancient Native American petroglyphs! Be sure to keep your dog on a leash and clean up to protect this amazing site.
We usually stay away from big cities on our RV trips because our dogs are older. But we found that Missouri’s Gateway Arch National Park strikes a good balance between urban and unique. Two famous buildings in this 91-acre park will take your breath away. Your dog will enjoy walking in the green areas and parks, watching the horses and carriages go by and relaxing with a picnic. Leashed dogs can explore the park and walk the Riverfront Trail.

We love roadside attractions and unique stops, and the dog-friendly Frontier Village ticked all the boxes! Early buildings from villages around North Dakota were brought to this site. The exhibits are filled with unique antiques and art and are a great way to learn about North Dakota and its history. If you are looking for the largest buffalo monument in the world, you have found it! Near Frontier Village, visit this special photo spot. You can’t resist!
The park is home to beautiful flora and fauna, and your dog is welcome to explore the park’s 100 miles of trails with you. Why do I love Cuyahoga Valley National Park? There is a winery inside the park! Yes, a dog winery! After walking and exploring, relax under the trees at Sarah’s Vineyard with your dog As with all national parks, check the park’s animal restrictions before visiting.
Custer State Park is a South Dakota state park and wildlife preserve in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Custer State Park is known for its bison, driving, historic sites, recreation and camping. It has been named one of the top 10 places in the world for wildlife within the park boundaries. Just 15 miles from the city of Custer, this park is huge and amazing!

Pet Friendly Travel
When thick, mix all the ingredients and let rise in a warm place for one hour. Roll out the dough and place it on a buttered pizza pan, iron or deep dish. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Bake the crust for 15 minutes and remove from the oven. Place the cheese and toppings on top of the food and spoon over the tomato sauce. Return to the oven and cook for another 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely before serving to your dog.
